Artist Statement

Artist Statement
As an artist, I am given the opportunity to present feelings, ideas, places and experiences from my perspective. My artistic response to that inspiration is presented through an impressionism/realism style.

When I paint, it is a journey in creative exploration. Tackling the problems encountered along the way, I visualize the end result.

Some element of spiritual energy is retained within every completed canvas. Stamped into every art piece is an active thought or feeling. I believe that it is this essence which makes an original work of art so valuable. To appreciate art and aesthetic beauty, one must connect with what they see.
Whether simple or complex, stories can be told through a work of art that gives us a glimpse
into another way of thinking. When discussing paintings I often ask my students “What do you see that makes you say that?” The question causes the viewer to take a second look and formulate ideas about what they are seeing, encouraging higher level thinking. The audience validates the art by giving it meaning from their personal perspective. The story is different for every individual. That is what makes art so special. Hopefully I can encourage you
to ask, “What do I see that makes me say that?”
